Time for some comeback, Bangladesh vs India 2014
India is touring Bangladesh for 3 ODI's before the start of the Big test against England. The dates of the matches are 15, 17 and 19 June. Dhoni and Kohli have made themselves unavailable for this series which opens the gate for a captain, a new player and a wicket-keeper.
The selectors will be watching the IPL and they must have seen the recent domestic season and based on that the 15 man squad will be decided. Time for some players to make a comeback and prove their worth in the team. Virender Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh have shown some form in this years IPL. Sehwag is yet to fire but he has shown some glimpses of how dangerous he could be once he gets going. The major disappointment in this years IPL has been Shikhar Dhawan. He was out of form in the World T20 2014 too.
The selectors sure will be looking forward towards Robin Uthappa as the replacement for a wicket keeper batsman, who is having an awesome IPL this year so far for the KKR. There will be no surprises if Shikhar Dhawan is not selected. In the bowling department, many have shown promises to perform at the big stage, but I feel Mohit Sharma looks set for a National team call. If he performs well in Bangladesh, Dhoni will surely give him a chance in England. Don't know whether he will play in England but he will go to England provided he performs best against Bangladesh. The seniors will probably hoping for a recall, and they have a point to prove that they still have some cricket left in them. The opening slot could be anybody's. So lets see what the selectors decide.
Now, the question is of captaincy. Who should captain the side? Who can fill Dhoni's boots? Options are many. If Gambhir or Sehwag comes in, both are in the frame of captaincy. Sehwag most probably wont accept it, as he did not agree captaining the KXIP in this years IPL. So, Gambhir if selected, could captain the side. Other options are Rohit Sharma, who has led MI to an IPL and CLT20 win last year or Suresh Raina, who has earlier done the job for the Indian team, or a new face captain, i.e. Ravichandran Ashwin.
Personally, I feel Gambhir should not be given the responsibility as soon as he comes in to the National side. Rohit Sharma is the right candidate for captaincy. Hasn't captained the Indian team as yet but could be a great opportunity for him. It would be interesting to see how he selects the playing 11 once the team is decided.
Probable 15 for the Bangladesh ODI series :
1. G. Gambhir
2. V. Sehwag
3. R. Uthappa (wk)
4. R. Sharma (c)
5. S. Raina
6. Y. Singh
7. R. Jadeja
8. A. Rahane
9. R. Ashwin
10. A. Mishra
11. B. Kumar
12. M. Sharma
13. M. Shami
14. K. Jadhav (a good domestic season and a good going IPL so far, could be the 12th man)
15. S. Sharma
Your opinions are must! :)
