Bangladesh vs India (Series Preview), 2014
After a small break, Indian team gets together for a series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh. Dhoni and Kohli already had some other plans, and made themselves unavailable for the series. The Indian team management decided to make a team for testing the new talented players who performed well at IPL and in the domestic season. Suresh Raina will be the stand-in captain, due to unavailability of both, the captain Dhoni and the Vice captain Kohli.
It was a natural thing that Bangladesh did not like India's team selection. Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh skipper, expressed irritation about the quality of Indian Team selected and he said that he never thought the visitors would take this series so lightly. He also said "We have defeated their best team in the past. They have young team, and despite the standard of the IPL, international cricket is a more difficult stage. And one should not forget, If they lose, India will lose, and not India A" I guess Rahim will love to destroy India and prove his statements right. Its a natural thing for a captain. But, on the Indian perspective, this is the best series with many opportunities. A new challenge for Raina and men. Raina has also expressed, that his team is not under any sort of pressure and they will enjoy it. With FIFA WC taking a lot of attention out of this series, people most probably wont remember this for a long time unless, something special happens. So Raina and co. have to do something brilliant. On the other hand, the Bangladeshi Tigers would love to improve their records against India and they would love a clean sweep against them, and its not impossible. Bangladesh have developed well as a Cricket playing nation and they also have quality players in their side. They whitewashed the NZ in 2010 and 2013. But their recent form is cause of concern. They have Lost all matches in the Asia cup, including the one to Afghanistan, a series lost against SL and not an impressive show in the WT20 as well, especially after being shockingly beaten by HongKong.
The individual attention will also matter. With 3 players yet to debut in that 15 man squad chosen by India, they would be hoping for an Indian cap. Robin Uthappa has made a comeback after a brilliant domestic and IPL season and would love to cement his place in the "half vacant" opening slot. Chesteshwar Pujara, who is undeniably Indias best bet in Test cricket, will be eager show his skills in the ODI format too. Ajinkya Rahane will look to be a regular member of the team, while W Saha will love to prove that he is there as Dhoni's second fiddle. In the bowling department, Mohit Sharma, Umsesh Yadav, Amit Mishra, Vinay Kumar have it in them to be a part of the regular side.
The odds are still in favor of India, even if its first choice players are missing, but Bangladesh will be pumped to dish out an extra ordinary performance and give Indian think tank a tough time!
(The Star Network have agreed to telecast the series in India, tomorrow match will start at 12:30 pm)
