With just 1 day to go for the biggest league in cricketing world, the IPL, cricket fans from all round the world will be glued to the Television sets and witness the fierce competition which IPL gives. This year’s IPL is different from other seasons, thanks to the retention policy and the IPL auctions. It is very much IPL v2.0. There are a lot of changes and let us talk about it here.

Starting off, the young brigade of the Indian team, the U-19 champions Prithwi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Manjot Kalra got very good deals and it would be wonderful to see all of them showcase their talent in this year’s IPL. Also, it is a very good opportunity for them to make a name for themselves at the biggest stage. It is fascinating how IPL, every year gives these kind of golden opportunities to youngsters. Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer are all good domestic players but I would consider IPL as a major boosting factor to their careers at the moment. So expect these youngsters to shine in the IPL

There are two teams returning this IPL and they have to earn the fans respect. They will come stronger and to try and prove a point. Also, teams this year aren’t known by the players they held for 10 years. Except for CSK, and to a certain extent the Mumbai Indians, the reshuffled squad, also the major reason behind IPL v2.0. You see even after Mumbai Indians released Harbhajan Singh and Ambati Rayudu, they got their 5 players who have been instrumental in their 2 title wins in the last 3 seasons- Rohit Sharma, Keiron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Krunal Pandya. Also, CSK have got almost all the players they needed to look like CSK.

However teams like Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab, even Kolkata Knight Riders for that matter look completely shuffled. Partly, the reason being they wanted to start afresh, especially DD and KXIP. The retention policy and auctions gave these teams a chance to rebuild their squad and also their strategy going into the IPL v2.0. DD got their player from 2008 team, Gautam Gambhir and appointed him the captain, who has already led a side to IPL titles. KXIP looked aggressive in the auction and if you have a look at their squad, it’s not bad either. Thanks to Preity Zinta to pick Gayle in the auction, hopefully Gayle will set yet another storm. Gayle vs. RCB will be a contest to watch out for.

New captains mean new strategies, new strategies means new and perhaps better competition, and this is exactly what to expect from this IPL. Ravi Ashwin appointed as the KXIP captain after serving under Dhoni in the IPL for 10 years. Dinesh Karthik is the new KKR captain and these underdogs like Ashwin and Karthik can prove to be dark horses. Even Ajinkya Rahane will wear the skipper’s hat in this IPL and their leadership abilities will be a thing to watch out for this season.
This is the new IPL. It is IPL v2.0. Hoping for the best from this season.
