CSK vs KXIP, IPL 2014
A double header today, and the first match will be CSK vs KXIP at 4 p.m I.S.T.
The teams first.
CSK (Chennai Super Kings). They are the super super kings of the IPL from the first season, winning it 2 times and entering the finals 5 times out of 6 IPL's. Captained by arguably the best captain of all times, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, this team are not wrong to be called as the "IPL giants". They have retained 5 players from last season , Suresh Raina, Dhoni, Ashwin, Jadeja and Bravo. Suresh Raina has been the backbone of CSK scoring 400 runs in each IPL and with over 2800 runs IPL, highest so far, he has been the silent killer in that side. Never missed a single match of IPL and CLT20, meaning that he has played every game which the CSK have played. They released Michael Hussey and M Vijay, their opening pair of last season. So, I will go with B. Mcculum and B.Aparijith to open the innings. B.Mcclulum is a natural hitter of the ball and given the powerplay overs to him, he can cruise along and take the match away in just the first 6 overs. They have couple of all rounders, Jadeja, who is so fit for a format like this. Bowls Quick, not a big turner of the ball, and bowls stump to stump and he can hit big sixes as well and bravo, who is a great finisher along with Dhoni himself. Raina can get in some overs quickly as well. My point is Dhoni has to select one out of Dwayne Smith and Samuel Badree. Many would say Smith but I would go with the underrated Badree. Leg spinner, economy less than 7 an over, bowls in the powerplay overs without fear and mostly the batting looks good, so for today's game, i will take Badree in instead of Smith.
Player to watch out for- Suresh Raina.
My playing eleven will be-
1. B. Mcculum
2. B. Aparijith
3. S. Raina
4. F. Du Plessis
5. D. Bravo
6. M. Dhoni (c) (wk)
7. R. Jadeja
8. R. Ashwin
9. S. Badree
10. I. Pandey or A. Nehra, but I would go with I. Pandey.
11. M. Sharma.
Foreign player to watch out for- Samuel Badree.
Now the KXIP (Kings XI Punjab). The smartest player and the winner in the auctions, but cricket is not played in those auction walls, its on ground, so the players they have selected should perform. Deadly looking batting line up, and bowling will be lead by Mitchell Johnson, what else you need in a team?
Looking great on paper the KXIP, has a task on hand. V.Sehwag sho said he wont captain the side, so the captaincy was taken by G. Bailey, Sehwag will be free of pressure and ready to go. This side also has a great domestic players, Mandeep Singh and Rishi Dhawan. Lot of players from the Mumbai Indians, so this side can lift the cup this year, provided, they hold on to their nerves. C. Pujara, the man who is more technical in his play and many said will not suit this format at all, remember the opening of Rahane and Dravid in IPL 6? That has proved that Classical batting has his place in any format. And I believe, Pujara can play both ways. Picking the foreign players, doesn't look that difficuilt for this team, Maxwell Bailey Miller/Marsh and Johnson. I would go with Miller the killer. Virender Sehwag will be the player to watch out for.
My playing eleven will be-
1. V. Sehwag
2. M. Singh
3. C. Pujara
4. G. Maxwell
5. G. Bailey (c)
6. D. Miller
7. W. Saha (wk)
8. R. Dhawan
9. M. Johnson
10. M. Karthik
11. P. Awana
Foreign Player to watch out for- G. Maxwell.
Head to Head-
12 matches, 8 to CSK, 3 to KXIP, and 1 no result.
My prediction says KXIP will win today's match
